    DRINKS REVIEW

The location is unsuspecting. I've seen this place, but never knew what it was called. There's no sign indicating the title and it's a historical site.

Went during Happy Hour which runs 5p-7pm. (Unsure if it includes Friday). They had music playing inside when we went, but seating was all taken up. The inside is pretty small, but there's more seating outside. It being Uptown - parking is tricky, so plan to valet.

They have old fashioned for $5 which is a good deal. The bartender was very artful in creating the cocktail. Friend got a mojito, which came in a smaller glass that I'm used to seeing. (It was not a tall one). It tasted good.

One of the better cocktails in Dallas. Super cozy space, great when it's cold outside and you need something strong to warm you up. Also, a nice respite from the rest of uptown.

Cocktails are amazing and a great escape from the throngs on McKinney. The decor is amazing and as your eyes wander to the chandelier and the rustic photos and mainstays it really does play to the house vibe of the past. The drinks are $12 but this place creates drinks not pour out screwdrivers to knuckleheads. I got the matcha do about nothing, a clever pun on the Shakespeare play.

One problem is that when it gets crowded the service really begins to suffer. My friend had to wait 25 mins for his drink.

Visiting from Phoenix and trying a lot of the local cocktail bars and Bowen House is def my favorite. Cocktails are great and they have 5 dollar old fashions and sazerac's during happy hour. Fries are also killer, highly recommend

Best cocktail bar in Dallas. Everyone who works there is wonderfully kind and incredibly professional.

Although I usually avoid Uptown like the plague, once in a blue moon, I'll show my face here out of sheer obligation. A friend wanted to meet up for drinks and since Bowen House is walking distance from his place, he was insistent that we meet there. I had Bowen House bookmarked but had yet to make my way down.

I wasn't expecting the interior ambiance to be as laid back as it was. There is still definitely the element of "Dallas" on the inside with a charming Victorian-esque exterior. There is a fabulous bar right when you enter Bowen House. Their happy hour is also pretty awesome with a lot of signature drinks being $5 a piece. In comparison to their usual $10-15 a drink prices, this is a steal and happens on a regular basis before 7 PM.

All of the drinks I received were tasty and made very quickly when ordered at the bar. I did notice that for our second round when things picked up drinks came out at a much slower pace. Their paloma and moscow mule were both very tasty and weren't overwhelming sweet.

Their outdoor patio is also dog friendly so my friend ended up bringing his puppy to hang out.

Great place! Their HH is amazing and the bartender was SO nice! I can't wait to go back and try the food! It looked amazing!

Great before dinner drinks spot with THE GURLS. Cozy af and awesome happy hour. Ambiance baby, look it up.

Possibly the best bar in Dallas. Definitely the best happy hour in Dallas. Prohibition style decor, great air conditioning and phenomenal mixology being practiced. Deeply stocked bar. Bartenders are friendly but not chatty. Great vibe and superb drinks.

Really great drinks for happy hour! Between $4-$6 and the kind waiter even bought us a round for free since it was our first time! Highly recommend!

I typically avoid Uptown Dallas at all costs. I have clients that always want to eat in Uptown and drink. Asked one of the bartenders over in Bishop Arts District and he recommended this place on an off night. Good choice. Met a buddy here and we hung out at the curved bar for awhile and popped outside to enjoy the breeze. Seemed like only 2 bartenders working that night but they were fantastic. I don't really remember their names but seriously nice guys. Might have found a new gem in Uptown.

We were there for happy hour on a Friday. I can't speak for the food, as we didn't order any, but the mixologist was fantastic. I didn't know what kind of drink I wanted exactly, but I knew what flavors I wanted. So he made me a drink tailored to my wants and I was SO impressed! It was exactly what I was looking for and was made with fresh berries right in front of my eyes. We sat on the patio and it was nice. I recommend Ubering to get there if possible.

I absolutely love this place. It is simply a jewel in Dallas. My wife and I go there 2 or 3 times a month and we have never been disappointed.

Went to celebrate a friends birthday. We had a table reserved. The drinks and food were delicious.
Staff was very good and accommodating.
Our only issue was the people at contiguous table trying to take our chairs away. As soon as one of us went to the bathroom, they will try to take that chair to their table. Classic frat boys and sorority sisters that don't know manners.

Also, we were dressed casual, but nice. However, there were too many frat guys (and sorority girls) with their classic plaid shirts, smelly caps, khaki shirts and flip flops.
My recommendation for this place is to have a better door policy. It will draw clientele that didn't pre-Drink at their apartment and won't just order the cheapest drinks in the menu.

2 of the best experimental drinks I've ever had. Daniel was the bartender. He made a couple drinks up and they were both incredible. Especially the first one that was super bitter and different.

A girlfriend and I went on a Monday and it was dead, but that didnt matter. The bartenders are very attentive and very personable. The overall look is gorgeous yet very gender neutral. My friend said she had the best martini ever, and my glass of champagne was filled the to rim. Highly recommend due to the atmosphere and comfortable seating areas.

This review was for a weekday happy hour. I met up a couple coworkers a bit after 5, and we almost had the place to ourselves. By after 6 there wasn't a seat left in the house so it's great to get there early if possible. Our group ordered $5 French 75s (happy hour). The first French 75 I had was great, lemon twist, not too sweet. The second tasted completed different, so we requested them to be remade by the original bartender. The staff was great, didn't make an issue about it.

We ordered the $12 arancini fried rice balls and some kind of chips...I can't remember what they were called. I would absolutely order the fried rice again but the chips were pretty middle of the road. I'll definitely be back!

I stopped in here last Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the very relaxed atmosphere. It's completely different than the vintage shop it used to be. I like it. It's slick but not too slick. It's almost posh but not pretentious. It's a very comfortable space I think. The afternoon I was there they were adding on a front deck which will be very nice to sit on here in the next few weeks. No complaints on the service. It was very friendly and quick which added to the welcoming feeling.

This is a cocktail bar. So it's a full bar and more on the mixology side. You can talk to the bartender and they will create drink based on what you're in the mood for. You're not going to find a wall of taps here but for those wanting beer, they have a few draft choices as well as options in bottles and cans. I'm a whisky fan so that's what stuck to. I usually will just drink it neat but here I actually had a Laphroaig cocktail. It sounds all kinds of wrong so I had to try it and it actually worked. They definitely know what they're doing here.

I did not sample the menu so that means I'll have to come back and try some of their food soon. I look forward to my next visit!

Small, unique, well-decorated cocktail bar in an old Uptown house. Take a look at their chalkboard to the right of the bar which lists off a few of the rarer house-specialty cocktails. Service was attentive and friendly. A great intimate bar to grab an after work or before/after dinner drink. Will definitely become one of my go-to bars in the neighborhood.

Stopped in after work to come in and have a quick drink. The place has an awesome vibe and an amazing selection of alcohol and beer. Trent helped us out asking what kind of drinks we were in the mood for, and after some questions served up 2 awesome cocktails. I love this place and can see myself quickly becoming a regular.

Our first visit to The Bowen House. My husband surprised me for dinner and drinks so off we went. We found out about this place through word of mouth, as they have no official publicity due to current hold by the city restrictions.

I love old homes, so when we pulled up I was thrilled. So quaint and clean. We walked up and across the deck, and I wanted to sit on the porch swing so badly, but my hubbie was having no part of that yet.

Stepping inside you fund a glorious mix of old woods, with a contemporary polish. I loved the decor, antiques, books, beautiful plants, and pictures every where. The bar however, was long, large and completely top notch. Great comfy stool-chairs.

We were given two mini-jalapeo cornbread muffins, which had just the right amount of sweet. We choose the House Special Salad with Steak, and burger sliders which came with a stack of baked potato chunks cooked in a wonderful butter/oil seasoning. Both were fairly priced, good food, a very attentive waitress , and huge large windows.

As we left, the Owner Pasha Heidari stopped over to see us, as we are his former H.S. Teachers! We got a tour of the kitchen (spotless clean) and hear many up and coming ideas he has for this place! Worth every minute!!

The Bowen House is in fact open!

This is a fantastic place to come if you want a great snazzy ole' cocktail; served up Don Draper style.

They have this gin-watermelon type drink that is wowza smashingly good. They soak the watermelon in gin for over 2weeks and ha I honestly think there's more liquor in the watermelon than in the actual drink. It's so refreshing, and with a great patio area, this is a perfect spot to come before dinner; or before going out to the more rowdy bars in Uptown.

The hands down best specialty cocktails place in Dallas!! I don't think I will ever go to another bar again. This isn't a vodka soda place, just tell the bartenders what flavors you like and what liquors you like and they will make you a unique cocktail catered especially for you! Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. Love love love this place! They also have a small food menu in case you get hungry.

This place is a class act all the way. Really fun inviting atmosphere, and the bartenders make great drinks! The music is great too, and everyone is very friendly. Great patio!

Right down the street from Gingerman, just east of McKinney - Bowen House is a fun addition to the neighborhood. Great atmosphere, cocktails, and music - will definitely be coming back! Oh, and friendly bartenders (Fabian was awesome!) making your delicious drinks:)

Really cute house, great bar. I had read way back when that it was going to be opened, styled as a saloon. I don't know if they ran into problems with the concept since it's an historic house, but there's not really any saloon to be found! It's still really cute with a mix of sleek/modern with a little vintage here and there. There are plenty of bar stools, tables, and the front porch even has a swing. It gets pretty crazy busy on a Saturday night but it wasn't overwhelming. It was great for people watching as well-- definitely an interesting mix of people.

The lady's room does suffer a little from being in a house like this--very tiny...two stalls (one with the door already nearly busted off...did I miss the cat fight?) and if someone is washing their hands at the sink, there's not really anywhere to go if someone opens the door to come in! So just try not to be claustrophobic I suppose.

My only complaint is when it does get busy, there's quite a lag time between drinks and personalization of service is nonexistent. The concept is a lot like what you used to find at Smith--no cocktail menu and they are great at customizing cocktails based on your preferences (although there's also plenty of beer/wine, etc.). That takes time, which is perfectly fine, but if you're going to be super packed, something's going to get lost. Little details were missed (serving a drink over ice instead of up, as asked), but overall, each drink I had was really great. I have no idea what they were, however, because unlike at Smith (back in the days when it was run by the right people), no one took the time to tell me what the hell was in my drink! And they were too slammed for me to interrupt to ask.

One exception really, was Erica, who did take a little more time in the initial ordering stage to find out more about our preferences. I really don't mind the wait, it was more that in trying to keep up, the service wasn't quite what it should have been.

They also seem to have a food menu, which doesn't seem to be loading on their website (maybe still a work in progress), but which I would be curious to check out sometime. I saw plates come out from the back looking very promising and tasty. Maybe next time!

  • *****

I would give this 5 stars, but the parking situation around here really got to me. Literally, that's the only thing holding back that extra star.

As far as drinks go, they're rotating. Different drinks on different nights. The menu? It seems to rotate as well, but not as frequently.

The drinks were made perfectly and with enough flare to last until next year. The typical cocktail bartender stuff... lighting things on fire, freshly squeezing some fruit into your drink, etc, etc. Great either way.

I had the brisket sliders to eat. Holy freaking... DUDE. you've got to try these. Seriously. They were outstanding. I couldn't get enough! Flavorful, cooked well, and not overpowered by any of the condiments involved. I was really impressed. The fries on the other hand were soggy, but whatev. They're fries.

The chill environment is what really brought me in. There were 2 other ladies in here, in dresses. I walked in in shorts and a t-shirt because I wasn't planning on stopping by. I still felt welcomed. They don't have any big flashy signs, but the home itself is gorgeous. The space inside is a bit small, and I could see it being cramped easily were it to be full. But on the night I went? Not full, so it was perfect.

All in all? I'd say go check it out for a good night out. Take your date here and impress her (or him) without breaking the bank, and without the pretentious dicks that walk around this neighborhood!

Another cocktail connoisseur's spot where your waiter's "tell me what taste you're in the mood for" = menu. Bowen House is an old house converted into an old-timey bar, complete with a mix of modern and vintage furniture, comfortable bar stools, front patio + swing. I came on a weekday night. The crowd was thin and it was a nice evening to sit on the patio and sip a cocktail. Our very attentive waiter asked each of us for our preferences and came back with his creations. The drinks were decent, but the atmosphere was nice and relaxed and we all really enjoyed this new addition to the neighborhood. Surrounded by Gingerman, Social House, and the other bars of McKinney Ave, this is a nice change of scenery. I'm not sure what the weekend experience will be like.

Awesome staff that is super knowledgable with cocktails. They will help you pick a great drink and will replace it with a new one if you don't like it. Great place to meet friends for some pre or post dinner drinks!

This is a great place to close out a romantic date. Our bartender had delicious suggestions and provided samples before we could even request.

What a wonderful added gem to the Dallas community! Firstly, the outside view is just too cute, a little house that reminds me of the demolishing Rainey Street in Austin, TX. They truly know what mixology is here at the Bowen House. Go in, tell the waitress or bartender what type of alcohol you normally drink, if you like it too sweet or strong or both... and they will make you a drink accustomed to your liking. No fixed cocktail menu, but they do have daily specials you can choose from.

Don't even ask me what I got, I just told her I liked whiskey and I liked it to be strong, and i got two delicious drinks that put me in the right mood. We also tried their brisket sliders which were paired perfectly with my whiskey. This is such a cute spot for a date even just to kick back with some drinks, and enjoy each others company. Don't think about talking ... you will be yelling here, which is how I strained my voice Friday night, haha... but I ain't mad at all. :D

Ooooh, why do you have to be located in Uptown??!

The Bowen House is the coolest place ever - outside, it appears as if its a nice quaint little gramma house - inside, swank city!

Politely greeted by the door person, and the manager, and the bartenders... Everyone was so nice and welcoming.

The drinks were magical too! I wish there was a drink menu so you could get ideas of what you may like, but if you just tell them the flavors you enjoy - they are able to work their mystic bartending powers and create a tasty beverage for you. Every one I had was awesome!

All fresh herbs, fruits, not even a bar gun - bottled sodas, home made juices and elixirs... I don't even think they carry cheap booze... (like Fireball aka black out juice). Definitely an added bonus!

The crowd is a little bizarre.. very diverse, but it seemed like folks never stayed long, grabbed a drink and on to the next. I definitely enjoyed the people watching - enjoyed the bartender watching too!

Although it pains me to go to Uptown, I will definitely be back to The Bowen House!

We were waiting for a table at another location and decided to come here for drinks. This is a green house and when you walk in, I felt like I was walking back into history. This place is so cute. We were greeted by our waitress who was so friendly. She told us the history of this place. The bar here is so nice. I loved the ambience here. It was just a relaxing place. I ordered their specialty drink which was a gin based drink. My drink was really good with a hint of strawberries. It was a refreshing drink. They serve food here as well. I would love to come back and check it out.

Had a great time at Bowen House! Beautiful and charming, the bar was a great destination for our birthday gathering. Everyone from the staff I spoke to on the phone to reserve a table, to the waitress Morgan, Manager and Bartender were amazing. The drinks were great- we tried a few speciality drinks that were delicious and creative. The food menu was limited but that was ok- we came for drinks and conversation. I am glad to see such a fun and inviting place with a laid back and diverse crowd pop up in Uptown Dallas!

I've never drunk in a historical house like this before! We were a little uncertain that we were at the right spot at first, as it just looks like a little house with no sign on the outside. Then we spotted the Dallas Historical Landmark plaque on the patio and read a little about Mr. Bowen before going in to enjoy some delicious drinks. It was quite empty on a Tuesday night after dinner, which meant great, attentive service. The server was super friendly and took time to explain the specialty cocktails to us, which had a lot of fresh ingredients and herbs to them and all sounded positively delightful. The bartenders definitely know what they're doing, and made more obscure drinks that other places did not make. They use an absinthe "mist" in their sazerac, which was pretty awesome. I tried their grapefruit and thyme infused vodka, which was smooth and refreshing, the flavors subtly woven through The special cocktails were about $9, pretty decent considering the effort it takes to make each one - granted, they were on the smaller side.

It is the busy McKinney uptown area, so I can see parking would be an issue on weeknights. Otherwise, I would be back here for awesome cocktails more often.

I'm so lucky my roommate suggested we try this new place for dinner on a Saturday night. This spot is a very retro dinner spot because it's based on a late 18th century style house. From the outside, it looks like you are having dinner at a friends house. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxed, intimate vibe. The outside deck has shade and is off the main street so it's not too noisy. Inside is completely renovated to have a unique black and white style that makes you feel like you are in a classy, yet comfortable setting.

The staff made the place even better. Cody, Regan, and Brandon made my party feel welcomed, important, and almost like family. There was a problem with my reservation and Cody was not only apologetic, but he offered a kind discount.

The food was delicious as everyone at our table had empty plates. Additionally, the drink selections are made by mixologists and they were excellent. You can tell the waiter any type of combination drink you are in the mood for, and the mixologist will make a custom drink for you.

The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars was because there was an issue with their register, and we could not get our check for a substantial amount of time. Yet, I think that was a random error. I will definitely be going back to The Bowden House!

Love this new bar in Uptown...so quaint and completely elegant. I absolutely love the decor...can I please move in?

The bartender was great. We told him what flavors and liquors we like and he concocted some amazing drinks for us. Can't wait to go back and try some more cocktails.

Gorgeous historical landmark turned swanky bar/lounge! We stopped in here on a Wednesday evening looking for a spot open on the late night tip. I ordered a house merlot and my friends grabbed cocktails. This place is truly charming inside and the waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The ambience would be great for a date night or to bring a friend from out of town! It's low key but has just the right amount of sass for a great evening. I can't wait to come back and bring more folks! Oh and enjoy the swing on the front porch. Southern hospitality at its finest!

I love this place more than Kanye loves Kanye. What a fantastic addition to the neighborhood!

The Bowen House is such a quaint, undiscovered lovely little jewel of a cocktail bar. This historical and very adorable cottage is nestled quietly on a side street of McKinney away from the hustle and bustle of Uptown nightlife. Its interior is chic yet charming with lots of classic character: black and white photography, brass candle holders, comfy leather chairs and intimate little nooks that make it a fitting place for cozy date night. They also have patio seating, a perfect option for the cooled down summer nights.

I loved our mixologist. I requested something 'light and citrusy' made with vodka, and he came through. He made me a flirty little pink strawberry concoction that was unique and refreshing. I was impressed. For food we opted for the nachos and the brisket pork belly tacos. The tacos were a certainly a high point: sweet, tangy, flavorful but they could have been served warmer. And the nachos--- as boring as they may sound--- were fricking delicious. If you're doing appetizers, it's a solid option to share.

Bowen House, I love your concept. Your ambiance alone is enticing. Add in fresh, craft cocktails and it really doesn't get much better than this.

  • *****

First off its a historical landmark (how cool?) second the inside is even more impressive than the outside and third the drinks are delicious.

If your going on a first date I would highly recommend this place to impress your lady... it's perfect for before/after dinner drinks!

Try this place for a nice change of scene:)

The Bowen House is the cocktail version of its beer-loving neighbor, The Gingerman. The bar is basically an entire first floor of a renovated, historic house that is decorated to look like a Restoration Hardware showroom. There is a long, semi-circle bar in the middle of the room with some smaller tables nearby -- in addition to a handful of tables on the front patio. The bartenders seemed to have a deep knowledge of cocktails and my wife loved her French 75 drink with a freshly-cut lemon twist.

This place seems like a fun spot for a pre-dinner cocktail on a night out in Uptown.

  • *****

went there after work!!!! i remember it as a thrift store,,,really impress with the interior.after getting the tour and our first round ..i venture out and asked if they could do a BLUEberry margarita ...10 minutes later i was the ENVY of the table ...love love love this place ....and those sliders ......sharing is so over-rated!!!! great food,,,awesome SERVICE!!!

  • *****

Loved it!! Drinks and bartenders were 10000x better than SmithBar, Tate's, S&P, and all the other fake "prohibition" fancy bars. Bartenders were super patient as I annoyingly tried to decide what I normally drink...and what I wanted. They ended up making me a Brooklyn, lit up an orange peel, there were sparks, and I fell in love.

Atmosphere was very surprisingly chill, not overly crowded on a Friday night. Very date-night-esque. If your date ends here, you can assume he/she likes you bc it'll be a good night! Drinks were pricey but strong - $30+ for 2 drinks.

The Bowen house is another new cocktail bar arriving in uptown. This one stands out from the others by being in a historic home. I think it used to be a clothing store?!
I loved the character from the exterior and inside the character continues with lovely decor and cool seating areas.
Our waitress/mixologist told us there was no drink menu and to tell her what we liked (this is very similar to speakeasy style in other cities and the old Smythe in Dallas did the same)
I enjoy this especially as I know what I like but don't know enough about cocktails to know what I want. I asked for something gin based and floral. The drink was spot on!
We also ordered a couple of plates. The cheese/charcuterie board and the zucchini fries.
Both plates were tasty but the zucchini fries were pretty meager.
I liked the cheese/meat plate but is also wasn't my favorite. The meat tasted more like regular deli counter cuts.
I will go back to focus on more cocktails though. The staff are all very friendly and helpful so I hope the Bowen house makes it long term.

Randomly wandered in here last week and I'm pretty sure it was divine intervention because this is one of my new favorite bars. The bar manager was lovely, he kept my boyfriend and I engaged and gave us a lot of interesting background on the drinks he was making. The atmosphere was classy but still slightly casual, it felt like a place where gentleman go to drink. If you're tired of the McKinney "shots" bars, this is the place to go for a real drink.

  • *****

This place shares the top spot for cocktail joints in Dallas with Black Swan Saloon imo. Unless you like the snobby atmosphere of Symth. Avoid the ladies night (Thursday).

  • *****

Came here for drinks a couple weeks ago.
Both bartenders that helped us were AMAZING. Drinks were incredible. The male bartender was able to create drinks that each one of us loved.
Setting is really relaxed and fun.

  • *****

No drink menu! This might prove daunting for cocktail/liquor novices but the bartenders are knowledgeable. You either order a cocktail you know (it will help if its a classic) or just tell the bartenders what type of drink you typically like and they can suggest/create one. The Bowen House is more of a prohibition style bar and the decore is gorgeous. Inside will definitely transport you to the yesteryears of flappers and whiskey neat. Cocktails here are pretty good but there are discrepancies between bartenders especially with the old fashioned. There is also some fine details being missed but not everyone can be as epic as Anvil in Houston. This was by far the best cocktail bar I was able to go to in Dallas and I can't wait to go back.

  • *****

Im not sure if it's the drinks talking, but I loved this place. Very intimate with mood lighting, reasonable music volume, and wait until you see the dcor. The atmosphere is 50% of any experience, for me, and this place has it.

It's true, there is no cocktail menu. They will likely ask a few preferential questions to gauge your taste, and work from there. You're looking about $8-10 a drink, and the same for appetizer/finger food, which is OK. This isn't the place to get sloshed :)

    Good Luck :)

  • *****

Great service, high quality food, creative environment... Miss the panko risotto balls, though!

  • *****

This place is super romantic and cozy inside while still being very posh. The service is great, the bartenders are incredibly talented and trust them to make you something delicious. My favorite time to go is on Sundays, and when it is cold there is a fire in fireplace and they also do cute events like movies on their front patio when the weather is nice on Sunday nights. Has a very unpretentious vibe despite being such a cool spot. It is easy to stay way too long and drink too much because you feel like you are in a someone's fancy yet incredibly cozy bad ass living room.

  • *****

Trendy little house very tastefully decorated. You would probably drive right by it if you weren't specifically looking for it , but it's a gem. Staff was great, very knowledgeable and friendly. They helped us with drink selections and were spot on. We only had time for one night cap, but will definitely be back.

  • *****

    This place is legitimately adorable!

The atmosphere is a little dim (perfect for a romantic evening), a little shiny (but not so glittery a man seems out of place), a lot eclectic (as far from a chain restaurant as you can get) and comfortable to boot (really, the chairs are all plush). Service was excellent when I came in for a drink around 9pm on a Thursday. The dinner/happy hour crowds in the area must have thinned because we found no fewer than three street spots adjacent to the Bowen House, making the need to pay or search for parking disappear.

They do serve food in addition to their well crafted cocktails, and they do take reservations for the handful of little tables for drinkers or diners. They have so many different kinds of alcohol that you probably have never tried but should. My friends got a squeaky clean gin martini and were shocked at how squeaky it was. The bartender had used a super delicious gin that has very little juniper taste, which I found amazingly tasty, but they were a little nonplussed. Say what you mean, get what you say. If you say you want an orange flavored drink, be ready to taste it in there!

The food menu is limited, but I think of that as a good rather than a bad thing. Prices are in range for what certainly looked like quality food. The menu rotates seasonally too, so if you see something you want on the website, call ahead to see if it's still offered. They had rabbit on there when I was in a few weeks ago but had removed the duck.

Do you ever feel too classy for this planet?

Have you ever wanted to drink a moscow mule under a speak-easy chandelier?

If so, head to the Bowen House. I swear some of the friendliest bartenders in town elevate this place to the next level. I once, as a test, went in and said "Will you make something fizzy with bourbon and lime?" The result was a concoction straight from Dexter's Laboratory (minus Dee Dee) and made me a happy man.

Two things to look out for: The prices can add up if you've already had a few and aren't keeping track. Also, parking can be a hassle, but that's not their fault. That's just the uptown ways.

Grab your best Boardwalk Empire attire and drop by.

  • *****

Great bartenders, great drink selection, sexy atmosphere... You won't be disappointed.

I never would have tried this place had it not been for Heather L. I felt a little nostalgic going in, because I built the majority of my vintage wardrobe there when it was called Ahab Bowen.

I walked in to see the cutest decor...so much style! It was a gorgeous day outside, and I was glad to see the daylight coming in through the windows and illuminating the place wonderfully. It made me happy just to walk in. We were greeted by the owner, Brandon, and the bartender, Chris. We got to order drinks, even though they weren't officially open yet. Bonus points.

We each told Chris what flavors and liquors we liked, and Chris whipped up cocktails based on what we told him. There is no drink menu. I repeat: THERE IS NO DRINK MENU. Just sit back and let the bartender take care of you. You will never be disappointed with anything they make you. I was treated to perhaps the finest cocktail I have ever had, with muddled raspberries, lemon, and a whole lot of deliciousness. When I began to ask Chris about ingredients to make the finest mai tai ever, Brandon overheard me, and made what I would call the freshest and best mai tai I've tasted. (Sorry, Trader Vic's)

I am not one to spend on cocktails, usually because I am not a big drinker, and also because I can usually make them at home. But the atmosphere, the service, and the incredible quality of the drinks will make Bowen House an exception in my book. I can't wait to go back.

I like and dislike The Bowen House all at the same time.

    Likes:

The ambiance - What's the word I'm looking for? Ah yes, quaint. This place fits that adjective perfectly. Just an old-fashioned house converted into a bar serving up good cocktails made by knowledgeable mixologists. The decoration and lighting is also very well done. It helps that this place is located on Boll St. away from all of the fuss with McKinney Ave. Definitely a good place for a date.

The drinks - The drinks here are good. If you're ordering a beer, vodka/sprite, or jack & coke, you are doing yourself a disservice. They are not bartenders. They are mixologists. Let them utilize their skills and make you a nice cocktail.

    Dislikes:

Not having a drink menu - I get the theme they're going for, I do. Know what cocktail you want, or tell the mixologist what you like, and they will make something for you. However, I like to look at a menu to see what the ingredients that go inside are. While I don't mind a surprise, I would hate to shove out $10+/drink on something I may or may not like. Sometimes while studying a menu, I come across something that piques my interest and proceed to try it. I don't get that experience here.

Price - This place is in uptown, but they are just a tad too expensive, at least for what you get IMHO. I know of two other places within walking distance that serve just as good cocktails, if not better, and are a little cheaper.

In conclusion, I still like The Bown House because of its character and potential. Will defintitely return.

Older charming home that used to be Ahab Bowen now hosts a classic cocktail bar. A worthy stop for a cocktail but not a bar I personally would hang out in.

  • *****

Tasty cocktails. Friendly service. Very different than most of the uptown options. The food was far better than I expected.

  • *****

The service was incredible and the bartender really loved his his job. It was a relaxed environment and decorated like an old "Speak Easy". I had an Old Fashion which was made perfectly. I will definitely come back and bring friends from out of town.

The chef at The Bowen House has free range of the kitchen, and I walked away reminiscing that their food was some of the best I have tasted. The quail is astonishing, and I will be lucky to savor quail served so well again. The fillet was served perfectly with juicy flavor that melts in your mouth. Our table had a few rounds of oysters that were delicious right out of the shell, or enhanced with the vinegar and lemon provided. The dessert was eye catching as our server torched a plate of deconstructed s'mores at our table. I was watching an instant campfire of gooey marshmallows, toasted gram cracker, and melted dark chocolate that completed the praiseworthy night. You can taste the high quality ingredients in the food, and rave over their simple plates allowing no flavors to compete.

Portions are on the small side, and the food, plus the drinks, can tally the tab fairly quickly. Please do not let that shy away from the experience. Consider treating yourself or a special someone. I went with a small party and everyone enjoyed themselves. The drinks are tasty, but can be hit or miss with not knowing the ingredients. I listed off a few things I like and dislike for drinks and was highly impressed with the outcome. I found it a good time to order complex drinks, considering the price will be on the higher end regardless and the mixologist are immensely talented.

***Would like to update that Chef Bobby is not at Bowen House anymore. I have not been there since, but I have heard Bowen House is moving away from the Chef quality food, and moving more toward Taco Night. Just an FYI. Still a great place for Craft Cocktails***

Now one of my favorite Dallas bars, The Bowen House has some of the best bartenders in Uptown! Not sure what to order? Just tell them what you like and they'll whip up something delicious that's sure to please! We sipped "The No Name", it featured strawberry, cucumber, basil, vodka, St. Germain, simple syrup and is topped with champagne! No doubt it was meticulously crafted & another round was ordered.

  • *****

This is hands down my favorite place in Dallas. The cocktails are absolutely delicious. I told the bartender i like basil in my drinks and he made me the best drink ive ever had. Not sure what was in it but it was great! Great ambiance and a fun crowd even on off nights.

  • *****

This bar looks like a small old house on the outside, and has a 1920's decorated interior. They play great music too! All the bartenders are drink making artists! Just tell them what kind of drink you like, and they will whip up something fabulous. The only downside is that drinks are pricy, but you pay for the quality. I've never had a mediocre drink here. Everything is delicious!

  • *****

Great cocktails here with a fantastic daily happy hour from 4pm-7pm! You can even make a special request and the mixologist will happily make it for you! I ordered a smoked vieux carre' (shout out to Chase for making it!) and it was excellent! The food here is pretty good as well - I've had their fries, onion rings, and steak frites. The steak was a bit well done though (I ordered it to be cooked medium), but it was still flavorful. I don't venture out to Uptown very often, but this place is definitely worth visiting!!!

  • *****

Although Bowen House is more of a bar than a restaurant, it's totally worth coming here just for the food... as long as you don't mind having to use your outside voice to be heard over the typical bar noise.

Some friends and I came here on a Saturday night for cocktails and food. I ordered the Valley of Light cocktail, which was in a part of the menu designated for not-too-sweet drinks. I appreciated this aspect of the menu because I'm always the girl who asks the server for recommendations on drinks that aren't too sweet (I hate sugary cocktails). And Valley of Light did not disappoint--it was a yummy cocktail with just a hint of sweetness.

We began our meal by sharing the fried brie, which might be one of the best brie I've ever had. I've also never had fried brie; didn't know you could even fry brie. Anyway, the brie was creamy and its flavor was so nicely complemented by the jam. So so good.

My dinner was the tuna tacos, which were also delicious. I tasted so many wonderful ingredients and flavors with every bite. Unfortunately, the place was so dark I could barely see out what was in the tacos. My friends had the gnocchi and raved about how awesome it was.

Finally, the service -- it was okay. Our server was competent but did not check on us very frequently. Water glasses went unfilled for little longer I like.

Despite the just-okay service, I give two thumbs up for Bowen House. Great food and good cocktails in a setting with a historical old-house, yet, modern feeling.

Drinks are great, atmosphere energetic and bartenders sassy. Love it. Good happy hour

  • *****

Love this spot. Built in a historic home, the interior is next-level cool, the staff couldn't be more welcoming, and the drinks are excellent. Definitely a five-star place.

I visited during Happy Hour, which is 4-7pm Monday through Friday. I had the Champagne Punch, which is served on the rocks in a big wine glass with a straw and is one of the most refreshing cocktails I've had in the while. Only $6 at HH, great deal. I also had the Moscow Mule, $5 at HH, delicious. My friend and I shared the Truffle Chips with bacon, completely scrumptious and worth every penny of the $10 ($8 if you get them without bacon, but trust me, you want the bacon). Our server was super nice, very attentive and friendly, we felt so welcome. I can't wait to go back!

  • *****

Definitely a great cocktail staff at this venue slightly off the main path. I like the venue which is a house that has been upgraded to a cocktail bar and restaurant. The chair height to bar height was a little uncomfortable. The staff knew what they were doing and gave me some great suggestions. I also tried the Blue Cheese Potato Chips which were amazing. I had a great time here.

  • *****

Fantastic spot for an upscale drink and relaxing atmosphere. The bartenders are absolutely lovely and I can't wait to go back!

  • *****

Very impressed. Owner(s) super friendly, the place is amazing, cozy and the bartender is unbelievable! Will definitely going back

Bowen house has such a unique atmosphere for a Dallas bar. You feel as you are in an intimate New York bar. The drinks are delicious and the service is great. I also recommend checking out the back room with its eccentric collection of art. Definitely a place I try to come back to every time I'm in Dallas. Owner is a good guy too and wanting to make sure everyone is having a good time.

  • *****

We went here for the first time last night, and I loved it! The bartenders are master cocktail makers. Don't waste your money ordering a beer. I simply described the flavors I enjoy and they crafted something delicious. Plus the vibe of an old historic house is exactly what I love!

  • *****

I was in Dallas for a work trip and the Bowen House was suggested to me by a waitress. I went to the bar and got a couple aviations. The bartenders were very kind and accommodating. The inside decor was beautiful. It is a dark bar with some great music.

There is bar seating and tables inside the bar as well. A small and quaint place with a good ambiance. I definitely would go back.

  • *****

Fucking amazing! Being from vegas this place is so unique. Amazing drinks great staff very knowledgeable!

  • *****

Cool as shi* a little crazy loud on a Saturday night but worth the time, best manhattan I've ever had

  • *****

Absolutely great bar and great atmosphere with really neat decor. It is a nice change of pace from the local Uptown bars. The drinks are amazing, and the staff is even better. Good music. This bar has a homey feel versus the typical packed, raging Uptown bar. The brie is fabulous.

  • *****

Always a good place with good quality drinks and chill music. Tonight's drinks were a French 75 and a gimlet. Classic, but always good drinks.

  • *****

I'm on vacation with a few friends and was recommended this place. We were told ahead of time that bartenders here were so phenomenal that you could name a few of your favorite ingredients and they would magically create a drink to your liking. and let me just say... I was not disappointed. Our bartender, Reid, was amazing. She created drinks that I've never tasted before based on our own request. She was incredible and the vibes here are unbeatable. Not to mention, the food was equally delicious. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat.

  • *****

In town for business and decided to stay the weekend and explore Dallas. I discovered Bowen house on the walk back to the car and stayed for a couple hours. I love the lounge like vibe, small location, cool music, low lighting, fireplace, every drink is like an experience. Crowd was not young but not older seems like working professionals. I would definitely go back there and recommend this place.

  • *****

Came here on a Wednesday night with coworkers before a Mavs game. It was seriously busy, and I understand why! The bartenders are so social and friendly. They have a fantastic cheese platter and their tuna tacos are really great. I am not a fan of tuna so that is saying a lot. The atmosphere was great and I felt like I was part of everyone's group there! Can't wait to show this place to my friends.

  • *****

I've been to Bowen House a few times for Happy Hour. I've loved it! It's a lovely historic house that has been transformed into a bar, but still meets historic laws. The bar stools are very comfortable, and all though all the seating was full, we were taken care of quickly by the bartender, and were able to sit within 5 minutes on both experiences. It's an intimate setting, so I'm sure it can really fill up on the weekends. The size makes all the seating, good seating from the standpoint of experiencing the environment. It's dark and cozy in the winter.

I really love their mixed cocktails! I am often disappointed by mixed drinks, so I'm now skittish to order them. I went with the bartender's suggestions based on my description of what flavors I enjoy, and was really pleased.

The bartenders were really nice. Attentive, but not annoying. It felt like I was their house guest, and that's perfect!

The handsome, young, owner came by to check on us at both visits. I noticed how accommodating he was to all his customers, which I really liked seeing. He was very genuine and warm. I also discovered he has a real interest in preserving the history and aesthetic in Dallas. He shared a wealth of knowledge of the city with me. I really loved his passion for it.

I thought the food was great! It's a bar with a short menu, but everything I've eaten from there has been excellent quality and clearly prepared with care. I had the New York Strip with chimichuri (sp?) sauce the last time I was in. The presentation was unique, and it was truly delicious. I cleared my plate! I also love the potato chips with truffle oil and blue cheese.

I highly recommend checking the place out, especially for Happy Hour, which lasts until 7:00PM. It's much more relaxing than uptown rush hour! Also, if you need an after work meeting with a drink, it's calm enough to have a real conversation. Enjoy!

This is a cozy little place. It's literally a house and if you don't know the area you just might drive by and miss it. I like it and they have the best boozy popsicles ever. It has a speakeasy vibe to me when I walk in. I would describe the decor to be vintage glam. The mixologists are very friendly and know their stuff. There are only but a few tables inside and you can sit at the bar. We opted to sit outside on the patio. They do have a great HH, and the onion rings look awesome! We didn't get anything to eat, went strictly for cocktails. They do have valet that's off the side street, but I work not too far away, so I just walked. If you're sitting outside, make sure to check your tables, sometimes they can be a bit wobbly. So overall it's a cute little spot that's not really about all the fanfare. Try out the boozy popsicle drinks, amazing!

  • *****

Nice little quaint joint- the bar staff is friendly and makes superb drinks. Nice change of pace compared to most of the bars in Dallas. You feel more like you're in someone's home vs being in some bar. That home just so happens to have other random strangers hanging out and a fully stocked bar with staff.

I went on a weekday, so I have no clue how the crowds are on the weekend. Being Dallas, I could see it being packed and a completely different experience.

I want to swing by this place and hang out on the patio once the weather cools down- seems like a chill place to have a quiet drink.

Definitely trying this place out again!

  • *****

This place is great. Dope atmosphere. Joe and Harrison know how to make drinks. Def come here

A group of 4 of us stopped in here to get a night cap. After walking up the stairs of a "house" we were seated at the bar and helped by Daniel. You basically told him what you liked, what you didn't like and a few minutes later you had a delicious cocktail. Amazing atmosphere, drinks and service. This place is a gem!

  • *****

Love the vibe (cool but not ridiculously pretentious like some uptown places), great craft cocktails at a reasonable price, and pretty friendly bartenders that can make you anything you like! It may get crowded on nights/weekends (it's not a very big place), but I've never had trouble finding a seat and it's not packed wall to wall that you can't move around. It's a chill, relaxed vibe, good place for first drink of the night, a date, or just a more laid back night out.

  • *****

Amazing cocktails, glorious happy hour, and delish bites. I fell in love with Bowen House upon my first visit. I love the rotating happy hour menu, appreciate the knowledgeable bartenders, and enjoy the ambiance.

Delicious cocktails and food. Had their Tiki -was very tasty. And the seared tuna tacos were very very good!

Solid Dallas cocktail bar. Good drinks that are tailored to the customers likes. Be ready with preferences. Be firm. Conviction is rewarded.

  • *****

Beautiful cocktail bar in a house. Cocktail are very good. The right place to hangout before a party night on McKinney

  • *****

A new favorite spot. I love how low key I find it to be on weekdays. Great weeknight date spot with several cozy booths and seating options, indoor and out, plus candles. Weekends are quite packed and crazy and there's a DJ playing loud music so I stay away, but that's personal preference. The bartenders and cocktail waitresses are so nice and helpful. They can make anything! Just tell them which spirit you like and how you like it and they'll make you a drink. I love their blood and sand cocktail, too! I'll usually spend around $8-$12 per cocktail.

My friend told me about this place. So while we were hanging out in Uptown, we decided to hit this spot up. There was a pretty good crowd for a Friday. So the line took a little time to get our first drinks in. Once we got them, they were worth the wait. A couple more rounds and I knew I liked this place. The cocktails were pricey but worth it for sure. Even the shots were made with delicate care.

The vibe and crowd at this spot was great. I recommend it for anyone in the area.

This is the best bar I have been to in Dallas. It's classy without being pretentious. It's romantic without being too sexy. It's cozy but feels fancy. The service is excellent. I love that you can walk in and ask for your favorite liquor and then tell them what kind of drinks you like and they make you a custom concoction. I had a vodka, basil and rosemary drink that was like a herb garden party in my mouth. Wow! Those went down easily! Everyone in my group was pleased with their selections and we could have stayed a few more hours drinking and talking. I have tried to come here on a Thursday - Saturday night and it's always been too crowded. If you want to enjoy yourself stop in on a Sunday or Monday night. Snag a comfy seat at the bar and enjoy a wonderful evening.

  • *****

Nice little place that is a bar at a house. Very cool concept. I felt like I was drinking at someone's house yet I was at a bar.

    Love it!

  • *****

Awesome staff, tasty drinks (no real menu - you call the drink and/or they'll create one for you), back room for special events, really cool atmosphere, and there is a ghost that randomly knocks bottles/glasses from the shelves (Mrs. Bowen)!

  • *****

I love this place. The patio is wonderful, and the service is great. It is definitely an older scene (by older I mean no hooting and hollering from frat daddies) so it is much more subdued and mature. The fact that it is in a historical home makes it that much better.

  • *****

Very creative drinks. Engaging atmosphere. I love it.

Great place and on your way back remember you can ride free by using LYFT app (Uber competitor).

Make sure you use the coupon code SUPERSAVER to get $50 off your first ride!

Enter it right before you request a ride in the Payment tab under Add Payment Method. Might as well try it out since it probably won't cost you a thing!

I love everything about this place. The people that work here are great, the atmosphere is fantastic, and my friends and I always have a good time.

  • *****

Great music and atmosphere. The owner remembers his customers and awaits takes care of everyone. Bartenders are top notch

This hidden gem is amazing. Because it is a historic site they cannot put signage out front. Inside is super cool classy speakeasy kinda vibe. I'm not a cocktail drinker but our craft cocktail artisan nailed mine with a refreshing perfectly balanced gimlet of some sort, drink that I loved! She also wasn't judgey or snotty cause I wasn't an educated cocktail drinker. Prices range depending on the type of liquor you select but would average about $14 from my experience. Yes, they are kinda pricey but they are generous portions and you won't need but one or two to feel it. It is an awesome place to go for drinks on the first date or want a change from the usual bar.

  • *****

Coming from a smaller city in Texas, there's not much 'craft' to having drinks back home, but I definitely appreciate a great craft drink.

This is a quaint and beautiful hidden gem that a friend introduced me to. Very glad she did, the bartenders are excellent at crafting a drink to your liking and taste preferences!

This place looks like cute little house on the outside, while the inside is a nice very inviting atmosphere to enjoy some custom beverages.

  • *****

I love Joe. Let me start with that because it's most important... They have literally anything you could ever imagine. Any drink you can think of, it happens here. Best cocktails in Dallas. I gave Joe a vague taste profile, with my choice spirit and he read my soul and created the perfect drink. I have come here on a slow Monday, and a busy Friday, and these guys never fail to deliver. If you care about quality craft cocktails, come here. The bartenders treat you like family, the whole atmosphere just makes you feel cooler. There's nothing else like sitting at the bar at Bowen house.

  • *****

    House turned bar.

I've only had the Old Fashioned here, made with rye. Had three or four and they were consistently good each time. The bartenders are great, attentive and knowledgeable.

If you don't know what you want, just tell them what you like and they'll make you something. I recommend coming on a slower weeknight or maybe early in the evening before it gets packed. If it's the weekend, it will get packed.

  • *****

I like that this bar is a bit off the main streets in Uptown. It's a very chill, intimate lounge, and make awesome craft cocktails. I really like how it's lit enough to see everything but dim to set the relaxed tone and is not a large venue. Bartenders are attentive and friendly. I like the Moscow mules. This place can be great for dates, group of friends or happy hour. It's definitely laid back and I am looking forward to coming back.

  • *****

    Shh...don't tell anyone
I bought a few shirts here for like 10 bucks apiece back when I was living in Dallas, and I STILL get compliments on them. Crazy. The shop is small, and you have to dig around a bit, but it's in a neat old house so there's a bit of charm to the place. Check it out. Or, scratch that--don't! Pros: funky retro clothes, super-cheap Cons: small selection

  • *****

    Ahab Bowen Rocks!
Ahab Bowen is by far the best vintage store in Dallas -- if not in the whole state of Texas! The quality of clothes is outstanding. It's the only place that I've been able to find inexpensive, 1960s Dallas-chic. It's common to find many Jackie O-type, Neiman Marcus tagged treasures. I've been shopping there since 1994 when I was in high school. To this day, I still wear many of my Ahab Bowen finds. They have timeless clothes. And the ambiance in the store's little house makes shopping very delightful! Ahab Bowen is a must for vintage lovers! Pros: Inexpensive, Quality Vintage, Great Ambiance

Well, well, well... This is such a cute little cocktail bar! I came here with my friend and I had never even heard of it before. Bowen House kind of reminds me of Parliament, except for the fact that it is a little more quaint and probably not as crazy-crowded on weekends (but what do I know... I've never been here on a Friday or Saturday night).

I did not venture into their cocktails (I know, lame), but my friend did and he said they were absolutely delicious! I had a taste of his and it was a perfectly crafted smokey/citrusy masterpiece. You can tell they really know what they are doing here when it comes to creating tasty adult bevs.

The vibe is classy+chic yet low-key and inviting.

I'm sure I will be back at some point!

Loved it, went on a date for drinks. Sat at the bar. It was Saturday night and we went around 9 o'clock at the the place was pretty empty however witching the next hour it packed up. The bartenders are awesome and can make mean drinks. I wanted something sweet, and he made a signature drink all with fresh basil in it. Love the ambience, built in an old house has a lot of character. Definite going back.

Very well crafted old fashion. Probably one of the best I've had in Dallas. The staff definitely takes the time to make their handcrafted drinks correctly; however this results in a ridiculous wait time. Cool vibe just a little too packed for me...

Love this place! Visiting Dallas and happened to stumble upon this place. Megan (bartender) made me a special drink with just knowing one ingredient!! And a shot!! To perfection! She rocks! Great atmosphere! Great decr! Super chill. Definitely recommend.

Craft drinks, appetizers and a chill young professional environment.... I enjoyed my first experience on a crisp Thursday evening. The servers/hosts were more than welcoming and attentive. There were no tables at first to sit but enjoyed the time that we waited. The food came out in a normal time length. I honestly cannot remember the names of all the dishes. Fried brie came out as a good sized serving and a spread to compliment it - not disappointed at all. Chips w a sharp cheese (cannot remember) was delish. You would think the cheese would make the chips soggy but they were crispy and went well with red wine. The other dish was something w meat and bruschetta bread and it was soooo good. My fav of all the 3. I will be coming back to try the Tuna and steak dish. They ran out by the time we got there :-/

Totally awesome and unique! A definite place to go if you have never been. Happy hours are actually fun to be at for singles and small groups. I've been 8 times over 2 months and never had a bad experience (I never give a review after one visit like others do). The staff is very friendly and want you to enjoy your time there. Go Sunday-Wed for a fun evening or happy hour after work. Although Thurs-Fri-Sat is often packed, you can still get in. And use the valet (across the street or on the East side of Bowen House). Want to know more details.... read on! ATMOSPHERE Remember Bowen House a historical landmark - and that's the charm. It's not like any other place around... (1) indoor decor is 'old Dallas' meets cool bar set up. It's warm, inviting and festive; (2) outside seating on cozy wooden porch - and the bench swing is always taken; (3) the entire front yard is a remodeled stone patio with a low iron fence. Three different environments that flow together in one place... and it's charming. Bowen House has tables and chairs all over - and even the bar stools are padded and comfortable. Duh!! They want you to stay and have fun! It's a place of lounge and leisure. We all know there are different reasons to visit bars. Some people who are friendly and fun go to meet people... and others who want a private drink with their date or friends. I've seen a good mix of both. There are intimate candle lit tables for 2 by the windows and other tables you can pull together for a friendly group. DRINKS & SERVICE Bowen House is a place where you go to chill and chat over some very unique drinks. Sure you can have "basic bar drinks", but their claim to fame is found within their skilled mixologists (much more than a bartender). Tell them what you normally drink and ask for a suggestion. They have unique drinks - and might make up a new one just for you! Yesterday someone in a group of 6 asked for something similar to a cosmo... and the end result looked so good I asked for one too. 30 min later we are all trying new drinks and comparing who's was best. Made 6 new friends and had a blast. (Try the "Vodka No Name" or the Elizabeth Taylor", my top 2 favorites so far.) Of course there is no "drink menu".... and do you really need one?!? Most people know what they like to drink... right? The idea is to TALK to people and make new friends. Discuss your drink with your mixologist, get to know them... and let them know you. Be adventurous! Look around and ask others what they are having, or ask if they have ever had the drink you are having. It's a great icebreaker... make a new friend, buy them a drink... and HAVE FUN! HINTS-N-TIPS If you are at a table or outside, yes, the staff will serve you and you will be pleased. However, if you are impatient or want immediate service on a busy night... just go to the bar, place your order and tell them where you are sitting. They will take good care of you all night. Remember - it's a fun place, be part of the fun. Bowen House is a blast and a place you can easily fall in love with... I did. PS: Don't be swayed by cynical comments from people who complain about everything and are no fun at a party. (LOL... you know the type.)

honestly, this is one of the best bars in Dallas. I love places like this - classy, terrific A+ drinks, and an atmosphere unlike any other in Dallas. I had the Old Fashion and it was probably the best I've ever had. Very friendly place as well. Since I live nearby, I will be visiting often!

Only negative: I wish the must weren't so loud. You come to these places to talk and they sometimes have the music up a bit too loud for my taste.

Yet again another great experience at Bowen House! I'm from San Antonio but my in-laws live in Dallas' swanky Uptown neighbourhood. For those who aren't familiar with this area of Dallas it's rife with high end bars and restaurants. I mention this because you could go anywhere in Uptown and have a good time. That being said we always go to Bowen House because this bar is head and shoulders above all others. It's a cozy bar with a speak easy atmosphere and unique cocktails. The food is delicious, the drinks are fantastic but the staff is their greatest asset. We had the pleasure of being taken care of by Chris (short for Christina I'd imagine). She is a very knowledgeable and fun bartender. I trusted her enough to let her make me anything her heart desired and was very happy with each libation. I myself am an ex-bartender and always notice the small things that set apart a good bartender from a great bartender. Needless to say I was impressed enough but her to write you all this novel. If you're looking for a cool place to hangout in Dallas, go to Bowen House.

Came here and ordered something with strawberry and cucumber. It was the bestest! Nice sweet and refreshing. I don't live in this area but would come back when I'm around.

Classy little cocktail bar tucked away from mainstream McKinney. No menu. Explain to the friendly waitresses or bartenders what you typically like, and they will bring you a custom-crafted cocktail just for you. Our drinks were on-point, and we would definitely go back. Reasonably priced as well, around $10 a piece.

    Love it!
Get a no name. Or a spiffy Griffey. Best drinks ever. Fancy place, reasonable drink. Plus the staff is nice and awesome!

Came here on a Thursday night, decent music, LOTS of people, cute decor. Luckily it was nice outside so we grabbed a seat on the cute porch swing. The waitress/bartender (don't remember her name) was great. She was fast & never left us with an empty glass - plus her drinks were STRONG. Cute area, will be back.

Thirsty? Feeling froggy? Go see John a.k.a Johnny Boy. Sometimes he wears a berkeley hat and sometimes he snaps people's spines. His favorite movie you ask? Time Cop 2. (Don't bring it up)

Great atmosphere with drinks made by craftsmen with skills easily confused by that of skilled surgeons. Rumor has it labias litter the floor like some weird off the path Texas Roadhouse. People be prepared, the brie w/ blueberry compote has caused many orgasms on the spot.

Dreammakers? Close. At least if your bartender is Megan. Rumor has it the male staff cause the labias to fall off. She's clearly beared down, maintained the labes (for now), and delivers the best drinks with a smile and typically a cute joke. Food in this joint is amazing - be prepared to go weak-kneed for the fried brie with blueberry compote. Cocktails are delicious and if you're lucky enough to get served by either Megan, Callie, or John, this is information you already know.

In love with this place! Beautiful interior and skilled bartenders. They nave to be since they don't have a cocktail menu. I know, odd. But delicious if you tell them your tastes. It was extremely crowded when I got there at 11 on a Saturday night but calmed down by midnight.

Love this place. They make their cocktails with fresh fruit and each one is perfect. The music is nice and food is also really delicious.

I came here for a friends' going away party and I probably wouldn't have known it existed otherwise. It was a pretty warm texas afternoon and the place was having some A/C issues but I give them four stars anyway due to impeccable service. The owner really took charge of the situation and tried to make everyone happy by trying doors open, doors closed and even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine as a thanks for staying. I also ordered another drink from the bartender, a vodka gimlet. This particular drink can be made a few ways and the bartender even offered some background and history on the drink! She knew her stuff!
    Parking is valet and the place is a little hidden...but it definitely looks like a house. (;
Bonus points for the patio furniture with porch swing!

Another great uptown spot with spectacular cocktails. No menu here, and that's a good thing. Put yourself in the bartender's hands, you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is also great, dark wood, beautiful bar. Only complaint is music got a little loud but the drinks are do good you don't really notice.

Stopped by the Bowen House for the first time at a small happy hour gathering to say goodbye to a colleague. The owners have done a great job of converting a small historic home into a seriously cool, laid-back joint. It feels more like your own private hangout spot than a bar.

The Tuesday crowd was light, which I appreciated. I hate crowded spaces and long waits for drinks. It seemed an eclectic bunch - some hipsters, some Uptown standards and folks stopping in for a quick drink after work. It made for a really interesting vibe.

We sat at the bar - great service and loved watching the cocktails made. Talk about precision and focus. No sloppy drinks served here. I had a dirty martini (extra dirty). The drink was delicious, but seriously - it was $14 and change before tip. That's a little high for a happy hour session (for one drink), so this would not be the spot that I'd want to kick back for a few drinks with friends on an average work night. A special occasion? That's a different matter - I'd be back in a heartbeat.

What a Secret Dallas/Uptown Treasure! This is the place to be and to be seen! In a cozy house with no sign, you walk in and feel like you are in a warm handcrafted basement, with lavish chairs, fireplace etc. With no paper trails (aka menus) the bartenders ask you what you like/ have a taste for and craft you up an AMAZING drink! Everything about this place is FANTASTIC! I can't wait to go back and try some of their food.

As far as drinks go, I had what they called Elizabeth Taylor which is Champagne based.

As an added bonus- their drink prices are very reasonable for all the work and quality they put into the drinks!

Love the atmosphere at Bowen House. Very classy yet comfortable. A place you want to bring your special friends to. Haven't tried the food yet, but the drinks and friendly, attentive service is great!

Cool spot. Fabian, bartender, makes the labias fall off. Solid spot. Super professional, chill & music's spot on.

Well what can we say but this is an excellent cocktail bar with great mixologists and combine that with a great setting you can't ask for anything better. The prices surprised us in a really nice way. Star were very friendly and made some custom made drinks based on what we liked. For sure we are coming back !!

Classy!!! Love it. Almost passed this place up since it looks like a house from the outside. Great atmosphere and great drinks. The bartenders can whip up anything depending on your taste. I'm not even sure what I had but it was awesome. Prices are a little steeper since they don't have hh specials. Will be back!

If you like vodka, get the "no name". It's muddled strawberries, cucumber, and basil mixed with vodka, St. Germaine and champagne. Oh, and if you're looking for an appetizer to share, try the fried Brie. I didn't know what to expect at first, but it ended up being delicious. Myself and two other girls split it along with the bruschetta. Out of the two, the fried Brie takes the cake.
The ambiance of Bowen house is pleasant. I met up here with a couple of girlfriends, but it would also be a good spot to bring coworkers or even go on a date. I highly recommend checking it out not just for its food and drinks, but also for the historical factor. They have a historical marker out in front that gives all the details of this gem.

Local spot not to be missed! I was on business in Dallas and the hotel recommended Bowel House for drinks that night. I am so glad we went! The atmosphere is perfect. It's warm, inviting, eclectic and friendly. Their drinks are traditional style hand crafted drinks. I told her what type of drinks I liked and she made me a custom drink that was DELICIOUS!!

One of my, hands-down, favorite bars in Dallas. Everything from the decor and the cocktails to the staff and the food is absolutely fantastic. Check out their special drink board, Callie always makes a wonderful cocktail.

My bartender, Chris, was AMAZING!!! The drinks she creates are incredible, strong, and delicious. Go to Bowen House and ask for Chris!!! She definitely knows what she is doing and her drinks are NOT served in a small cup unless they usually come that way!

My husband and I went here last night for the first time and we're very impressed. I was expecting a hole in the wall bar, but it was way better. The bartender whipped up something great after a vague description of what I liked. We'll be back! It's a great pre-dinner spot.

The bartenders knowledge of the whiskey & scotch last time I was here impressed me! I've only been two 3 places in plano/Dallas area where a employee knew so much about the drinks I've been in the restaurant/bar industry for 13 years its few and far between when you find the level of service and knowledge you get like what you when coming here... I'm going here tonight 10/16/15 with my best man for a semi bachelor party can't wait for some drinks!!!!.......
